Emerging and Re-emerging vector borne diseases
Abstract
The spectrum of infectious diseases is changing rapidly in conjunction with dramatic socioeconomic and ecological changes. There have been considerable advancements in achieving global goals, however, newer emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases pose a serious question as to our approach and the way ahead to tackle them. While emerging infectious disease are those whose incidence have increased in the last two decades or threatens to do so in the near future, re-emerging infections are those that have shown resurgence after a period of decline. These diseases impose an important global burden on public health, increasing health inequalities more so in tropical and subtropical countries like ours.
